Going Extra With YSL's All Hours Encre de Peau Foundation

When you're met with additional money on your coupon and happen to find yourself in a make-up store that offers everything from low over high to highest range make-up, what do you do?

I answered this question by making the decision to pamper myself. While I usually live in the lower and middle ranges of make-up and beauty products, I decided to go a bit extra and get a more high profile make-up brand. This is how I ended up with a 51,95€ worth bottle of Yves Saint Laurent's All Hours Encre de Peau.

YSL All Hours Encre de Peau Foundation
This "skin ink" is a foundation that promises high coverage up to 24 hours while still remaining water-proof and transfer-resistant. It comes in the traditional golden packaging that contains a square bottle with 25 ml foundation. Each bottle comes with its own pump, which is going to spare you of a messy application. It is easy because the foundation's creamy constancy. It can be applied with a brush, blender, or even your fingers.

Even though YSL has almost every lighter shade covered, they lack a wider range in terms of darker skin-tones. There are only two: B90 22 and B80 21. Meanwhile, pale to slightly-tanned contains more than 15 options.

I felt that the result was much better when using a primer in advance. Without a primer the product would only last a rough working day - about 8 hours. Then it also has the tendency to rub off on clothes. When applying a primer in advance, it lasts over twelve hours. I put the foundation on at 10 AM before leaving the flat and when I came home, shortly after midnight, it was still spot on. While YSL suggest to use their own in-brand primer, I found that mine by Catrice does the trick as well.

The "All Hours Foundation" offers a good coverage that smooths out pores and hides little pimples. On top of this, it carries a slightly fruity smell. According to the website, it also contains a formula that makes the skin appear matte should you suffer from oily skin - since I do not, I can't vouch for that but according to online reviews, it does the trick.

Within the first hour of application the foundation still has a tendency to rub off into tissues - this can be pretty bothersome in winter. However, afterwards it sits rock solid for the rest of the day. Despite those words, the foundation feels soft and while it does not exactly hydrate the skin, it offers a smooth and softening feeling on it instead. Neither does it dry it out.

Given all of this, there remains one vital question: Would I buy the "All Hours Encre de Peau" with my own money?

Since I am a natural cheap skate, I would balance from leg to leg and bite my lip while emitting a low whine-y noise from my throat. In the end, the answer is a clear yes. 25 ml can get you through, at least, half a year.

Furthermore, it is the most comfortable foundation I had the pleasure of using which doesn't cost a fortune - looking at you, Dior - that offers great coverage. While 80€ is a price I can't endorse even if the product is mega, 50€ can be justifiable.

To finish this of, I am a slut for Yves Saint Laurent's logo and packaging. It's so ✨ fancy ✨!

  2. Love YSL, I’ve only ever owned their lipsticks but I’d love to try their foundation to feel it but I don’t usually wear any! I do imagine it to be amazing as their lipsticks though!

  3. I've heard so many great things about this product but YSL don't make a shade anywhere near pale enough for me so I haven't been able to try it. Makeup must be SO expensive where you are! I had no idea! That foundation is £35 here, so only around 40€. And Dior is only a few pounds more. I need a minute to process this 😂 x
