Clarins Gel Contour des Yeux:
Does It Make You Look Alive When You Get Up At 05:30AM?

"Would you like to try this tester?" the shop assistant asked me as she offered me a small bottle of ... something.

Naturally, you don't refuse testers even if you have no interest in buying it. It is always a great way to broaden your horizons and learn something new. Thus, I replied, "sure why not."

This is how I ended up with a small bottle of Clarins' "Gel Contour des Yeux" or in a lingua franca we all speak "Eye Contour Gel".

When I arrived at home, I set out to discover what this small bottle even is. In short, the "Eye Contour Gel" is meant to help you reduce puffiness and dark circles under your eyes.

As someone who had to get up regularly at 05:30 AM for work, I thought that this might be a useful and more natural way to hide the small circles that appear after bad nights, or when you end up staying up too late for various reason. It is very easy to apply as well: you squeeze a small droplet onto your finger and gently tap it into the area under your eyes. The gel can be applied under or over your make-up.

The main ingredients used for the contour are aloe vera, cornflower and ginko biloba.

Aloe vera is meant to soften the skin and help it heal. Cornflower has a therapeutic effect on easily irritated or sensitive skin. Meanwhile, ginko biloba is an antioxidant that helps against free radicals. On top of this, it supports the skin's circulation creating soothing benefits. Due to these ingredients, "Clarins Gel Contour" is meant to hydrate the area under your eyes while also giving your a brighter appearance.

When the Monday morning came, and the clock struck 05:30AM, I rolled out of bed and decided that this was the moment to test this product. There are nights when everyone and each of us suffer from a certain puffiness under the eyes or even dark circles. This was when this product would come in handy or so I had hoped. I used the product as required for more than a week.

In the end, I can say that it was easy to apply and it felt quite good on the skin. You could feel the substance seep into the area. On some days, I even had the feeling that area under my eyes felt fresher than the rest of my face.

I rarely suffer from dry skin, so I - sadly - can't vouch for any of those side effect but the costumer reviews on the internet are very positive about this aspect. However, I unfortunately have to report that I could also not see any difference regarding the discolouration under my eyes after longer nights or that the puffiness was reduced.

This leaves me with one question: would I buy this product after tying the tester?

In all honesty, no, I would not. I do not think that this product is quite for me - maybe I am not quite "beauty blogger" enough for it. At the same time, I have seen minimal to no effect at all when using Clarins' Gel Contour.

However, the biggest problem this beauty product has is the price tag: no less than 40€ for 20ml.

  1. I love the honesty of this review. Dark circles in the under eye area are a common problem. Although I haven't worked particularly on resolving that concern, the few eye gels I have used have not seemed to do anything special.

    1. yeah, it's a big issue. And thank you, I gave the review my best :)
